The Ungrateful Son

The stinginess of a man who does not give his old father any of his food is punished by having to wear a toad on his face for life.

Once a man and his wife were sitting in front of the house door and they had a roasted chicken in front of them and wanted to eat it together. Then the man saw his old father coming, he quickly took the chicken and hid it because he didn't begrudge him any of it. The old man came, took a drink and went away. Now the son wanted to carry the roasted chicken back to the table, but when he reached for it, it had become a big toad, which jumped in his face and sat there and would not go away again; and when she wanted to take someone away, she looked at him venomously, as if she wanted to jump in his face, so that no one dared to touch her. And the ungrateful son had to feed the toad every day, or else it would eat out of his face; and so he went to and fro in the world without rest.
